Hunter Lord’s Taverners organised the recent Over 60s State Championships on behalf of Veterans Cricket NSW. This followed their great 2018 effort under difficult circumstances. The weather was mostly kind this time round and Cathie Black and her team were rewarded for their meticulous planning.

The 16 teams enjoyed the facilities provided by Maitland Council and Maitland Cricket. Easts Bowling and Golf clubs were congenial meeting places and gave the championships great support.

As far as the cricket went the Tavs had  a successful campaign. The Division 2 team won two of their  three pool games and narrowly missed finishing 2nd in their pool. However they convincingly won the the Division 3 trophy.

The Division 1 team finished 4th across the two pools and had some very close finishes, except for the play-off game. Both teams displayed excellent comraderie, which is the norm for veterans’ cricket.
